The meeting opened with prayer led by Sheila Beeman.
Gary Brown provided the following updates on behalf of the Board:
- The February board meeting was cancelled and instead the
Board members attended a training session that was focused
on the book “Serving God on the Christian School Board”. Ernie
Lewis (30+ years experience in teaching, Masters Degree
in Education, and a consultant for BSU) facilitated the training. The
Board provided feedback on the training and offered the following
comments:
- Personal determination and commitment
- Resolve problems based on Biblical teachings
- Blessed with time spent together
- Growth and continuity
- A great beginning to move forward, new ideas, new year
- Gary would like to plan quarterly follow-up training
sessions for the Board. In addition, the Board will attend
ACSI training.
- The Board is developing “ad hoc” committees
for getting specific tasks completed. One of the priorities
for the Board is to approve a budget for a Principal position.
Jeanie Hetrick asked how parents could get involved with the
ad hoc committees. Gary said that the ad hoc committee
chairman would determine if parent involvement is appropriate.
Becky Stephens suggested that parent participation could be
in the form of a committee. The PTF can be a means to communicate
to parents.
Centennial Update: Judi Magee reported that a lot
of preliminary planning is in progress for the upcoming 100-year
celebration scheduled for July 4-6th. GFA is working
with the City of Greenleaf and the Greenleaf Friends Church to
coordinate the many activities for this celebration.
- Friday, the 4th will be the traditional breakfast, parade
and patriotic program
- Saturday, the 5th will focus on the Academy – a program
of events is being developed.
- Sunday, the 6th will have a combined worship outdoors. Letters
are being mailed to various churches in the area seeking their
participation.
All past GFA Superintendents are being invited to attend
the celebration. The President of the United States will
also receive an invitation.
The PTF was asked to manage the main food booth at the Centennial
event. The PTF will discuss this and get back to Judi Magee
before the next monthly meeting.
