The meeting opened with prayer led by Char Crusta.

Char began the meeting with a presentation on grant writing.  Handouts were distributed that included:

  • Statistics
  • Boise Library information
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Helpful hints
  • Listing of charities and nonprofit organizations
  • Sample local grant awards, etc.

In one of the handouts, the American Association of Fundraising Council reported that in 2005, 14.8% of grant funds were received by educational organizations and 35.8% were received by religious organizations.

Char discussed that the largest part of grant writing is in the research.  The Caldwell Library has a grant section through their Research Librarian.  The “Directory of Idaho Foundations” is a good source for donors and is available to check out through the Caldwell Library.  The Boise Library provides a more comprehensive source of grant writing materials.

Char would like to organize a team of members from GFA to begin applying for GFA grants.  Please contact Char through the school office if you are interested in participating.

PTF Leadership Updates

Centennial Update:  Judi Magee reported on the 100-year celebration for GFA to be held July 4, 5, and 6th on the school grounds.  It will be a time for people to come back and reconnect and reminisce and a time to look forward.

The Centennial Committee is looking for people who can give their time as well as donations to make this event possible.  Please contact Judi at the school if you can help or know of someone who can.  In addition, the Committee is seeking an individual who can oversee a Prayer Committee for the success of the Centennial.  If anyone is interested in this, please contact Judi.

Review of Board Meeting.  Sheila Beeman provided the following notes from the January meeting:

  • The Academic Affairs committee met to discuss the superintendent/discipline coordinator role.  If any parents are interested in helping with this task, contact John Mather or Ken Sheldon.
  • Endowment has met with Char Crusta concerning grants.
  • The Board approved the request for a baseball team.  This year’s season begins later in February.
  • Superintendent’s Report:
    • One more student has enrolled this month.
    • ISHAA / League Status:  There was overwhelming support against the new league division, but a decision was made to keep the league as is.  League teams are Salmon River, Garden Valley and New Meadows.  Kari Fisk indicated that teams would alternate going to these distant locations.
    • The Board approved the grant received from Idaho Power.  This will result in lower lighting costs for the school.
    • $3,870 was donated for projectors.  Four projectors and one portable projector will be purchased.
  • Board training was held on Feb. 1-2 at the school with Ernie Lewis.  Glenn Koch mentioned that it was a great experience and similar to a spiritual revival.

PTF Updates:

  • A donation box will be placed near the new PTF bulletin board.
  • By-laws for the PTF will be discussed at the next PTF meeting.
  • PTF Family Work Day is scheduled for Saturday, February 9th. Discussed projects that have not been completed that we could work on this weekend.
  • Discussion was held about adding a general prayer request to the school website.  More details will be reviewed and discussed at March’s meeting.

Next PTF Meeting will be held on Monday, March 3rd at 7:00 PM in the school dining hall.
