The meeting opened with a prayer led by Steve Magee.

Jeanie Hetrick welcomed everyone and shared the following highlights from the last GFA Board Meeting:

  • This year’s “First Week” was a success.
  • The school administration software, RenWeb, is now installed and is being put to use. If your e-mail account is not on file at GFA, please contact the school office.
  • Enrollment is at 241 families for the 2007-08 school year.
  • The financial statements were reviewed.  For the school to have a balanced budget, enrollment should be at 248.  Since the preschool and elementary enrollments are higher than usual, the budget is balanced.
  • Judi Magee, Development Coordinator, provided an update on the Centennial Campaign.  To date, $493,000 has been raised.  The kick-off dinner is scheduled for October 12th.  If you know of anyone who would be interested in attending and supporting GFA, please invite them to the dinner.  Contact Judi Magee or Jeanie Hetrick with any questions.
  • Gary Brown, the new Chairman of the Board, has made Ken Sheldon responsible for reporting on the following committees:  Budget, Centennial Campaign, Building and Transportation.  Gary also asked the Board members to review how they are functioning as a Board, versus how it is written in the By-Laws. A date for  ACSI Board Training is being firmed up for the end of October.
  • Wendell Unrau is planning a staff appreciation dinner for all GFA Teachers and Staff.
  • Dirk Tiller has resigned his position from the Board due to personal commitments.
  • Joy Lujan is a new Board member from Caldwell Friends.
  • The school still has a vacancy for the Spanish teacher position, as the current teacher will be leaving after December 2007.
  • The City of Greenleaf approached the Greenleaf Friends Church about use of the property at the end of the elementary school and proposed using it for a park.  A discussion by the Board regarding possible future expansion of parking for the church and growth for the school led to the conclusion that the Board request the Church not release this property.

PTF Leadership Updates

President:  Jeanie Hetrick presented the following new business:

  • The PTF will have a bulletin board located near the school office that will be designated as “PTF News".  Thank you notes will be posted on the bulletin boards for students to sign in appreciation to many individuals for their donations and hard work accomplished at the school over the past several months.
  • The GFA Request Form has been approved by Mr. Sheldon and will be available through the school office.  The form will help track various projects that are requested or in progress.  All requests will be logged and maintained in the school office.
  • The bus transportation subject needs to be addressed with Maxene Brown.  Updates will be discussed at the next PTF meeting.
  • Internet searches were conducted on PTF rules of conduct and grievance procedures.  Copies will be made and distributed at the next PTF meeting in order to begin putting together By-Laws for GFA’s PTF.
  • A question came up regarding a principal position and a robust conversation regarding the need for a principal was voiced by many in attendance.

  • Fifty of the new volunteer forms distributed at registration have been turned in.
