PTF minutes review from the 4/2/07 meeting/Current Agenda Items:
- Byron reviewed the minutes from the April meeting.
- A copy of the Board minutes was available at the meeting for review.
- An email was sent to the PTF E-mail distribution with the schedule for Student Handbook Revisions. Comments from parents are welcome concerning any of the policies listed. Please submit written comments to Ken Sheldon and plan to attend an open forum with the Student Affairs Committee, scheduled for Monday, June 4th, 5:30 PM in the School Library.
- Cherie Fredricks announced the upcoming Elementary School Barbecue to be held on Wednesday, May 23rd, from 6:00-8:00 PM on the lawn north of the Elementary School. This is an opportunity to meet next year’s teachers and to get to know your fellow classmates and families. Cost is $7.00 per family. Any monies left over will be divided through all elementary grades. Please see posters at school for more details or contact Cherie.
- Copies of the letter to parents regarding Board nominations were available for review.
- A copy of the letter to the four Friends churches was also available for review.
- Judi Magee presented the following Alumni Committee updates:
- Phone calls need to be made to GFA contributors before the end of the school year. This is a good opportunity for parents to interact with donors. If anyone has time to make phone calls, please contact Judi. Time spent can be credited towards your 2007 service hours. In the future, personal notes will be sent to donors.
- Wednesday, May 9th is GFA’s Senior Class Breakfast. The Alumni and Development Committee will be hosting this event and door prizes will be given in appreciation for the Senior Class 2007.
- Sunday, September 16th is Academy Sunday. This is an event to promote the school to approximately 50 churches that are connected to GFA. We may use the Drama class or the Choir to go out to these churches as a way of showing what it means to be a part of this great school. A brochure is being put together to be used in this campaign.
- The Alumni Committee is looking at conducting another fundraiser with the Alumni. There are currently 1,000 alumni.
- If anyone can help with the Centennial Campaign, please contact Judi. Areas of contribution focus are with corporations and foundations, industries, and major donors.
- Kickoff meeting/dinner is scheduled for Thursday, October 11th. Need volunteers to work on this dinner. In one year we will be celebrating GFA’s 100-year celebration. Contact Judi Magee if you can help out.
- Restrooms still need repair and we’re trying to obtain the resources needed to complete the job. Please contact Byron Sheets if you can help out. Next family workday is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 9th to repair the girl’s bathroom stalls.
- Kaleb Fisher did an awesome job in painting the day care door, thank you!
- Pastor Alan was invited but unable to attend the 5/7 PTF meeting. ACTION: Invite Pastor Alan to the June 4th meeting.
- Dixie Morgan was unavailable to report on the Elementary School playground. ACTION: Follow up with Dixie for an update at the next meeting.
- A request was made from the Board that parents identify themselves when asking the PTF to address their concerns at Board meetings.
- PTF would like to hear from parents and teachers about the following:
- Your assessment of the PTF this year (see evaluation form to be mailed)
- Suggested day/time of future PTF meetings
- Please submit comments via the Suggestion Box located in the school office.
New Business
- Merlin Glanzman suggested that the Admission Policy to the school be reviewed and that a testimony should be agreed upon. In addition, a conditional admission policy should be carried out when necessary.
- Discussed the power of prayer as observed through the Mom’s In Touch prayer group where specific intentions are prayed for. All agreed that prayers for the school are needed. ACTION: An email will be sent with a Weekly Prayer Intention in order for all of us to be praying for the same request. Prayer requests can be dropped off at the school office in the prayer request box.
- The student’s behavior in classrooms, on campus and away from campus is a concern for many parents and teachers. Ken Sheldon needs to be empowered by the parents. Is it the schools position to change the heart or teach the child? GFA needs to be in line with God’s values.
- Jeanne Maloney asked how parents could learn of upcoming chapel presenters. Pam Mavencamp suggested that the PTF may contact the school office to obtain updated information at any time. ACTION: Discuss at next meeting if this information can be added to the GFA webpage.
- Additional work suggestions from Debbie Swanson:
- Elementary sign outside needs painting
- Bleachers need to be power washed and painted
- Building near ball field (track & concession items) needs to be power washed and painted
- Netting in ball field needs repair
- Inquiries made by Debbie Swanson:
- Bus issues – the mini bus needs repair. All other busses have either been removed or addressed.
- Landscaping the front of High School – this is in process of being worked on.
