Cherie Fredricks welcomed everyone and Byron Sheets opened the meeting with prayer.  “Help us to be unified in everything we do and say.”

Cherie Fredricks  reviewed the new business section of the minutes from the 3/5/07 PTF meeting including comments from Jeanie Hetrick as stated in the meeting Agenda:

  • The concern over school fire safety and lack of sprinklers was not addressed at the last Board meeting.  Action: Jeanie Hetrick will discuss this with Mr. Sheldon and ensure it is voiced at the next Board meeting.

  • Julie Douty, Student Affairs Committee Co-Chairman, was not present at the 3/19 Board meeting and several committees are on hold with no date of reconvening.

  • Work is in progress on sprucing up the school entrance area.  A couple of Senior students have volunteered to sand down the preschool door.  Action:  We are looking for someone who can repaint the door.  Please let Jeanie or Byron know if you can help.

Review of the March GFA Board Meeting Minutes by Brenda Butler:

  • Charlie Justus is sending information on a 3-day grant writing class to the school office.

  • School management software has been ordered to automate school records.  The cost for this software is $6,000.  Dave Davenport is working with Micron to try to obtain grant money to help pay for this.

  • The senior class has not yet finalized their class trip.

  • Maurice Chandler will conduct training on 4/3/07 with the Centennial Committee.  A survey of alumni from 1996-2006 on where they completed their education will be conducted.  Jeanie Hetrick is assisting with this project.

  • Merlin Glanzman invited any interested parents/teachers to attend a Centennial Committee meeting at 5:30 PM on 4/3/07 at the Community Center.

  • The FAN newsletter costs about $900 to publish and is an unbudgeted expense.  Sponsorships are encouraged.

  • Letters of Intent to GFA teachers will be sent in early April.

  • Maurice Chandler’s installment payment is due in April.

  • The PTF requested a copy of the Board agenda prior to meetings and proposed they be published on the web.  A copy of the agenda will be sent to Jeanie Hetrick before Board meetings.

  • The Nomination Committee has produced an Application Form for any parents interested in applying for a Board position.  Please contact Brenda Butler, Ken Sheldon or Stan Morse if you are interested in applying.

  • Mr. Mather has resigned from GFA.

  • A request was made to Ken Sheldon that he obtain information to create a Principal position.

New Business

  • Friends Church Nomination Process
    • Jeanie Hetrick met with Pastor Allen to discuss sending a letter to the four Friends churches that have a GFA Board term completing this year.  The letter will acknowledge a thank you for prayers (re: issues with the Board and Superintendent). The Board has reoffered Mr. Sheldon his contract and communication is in progress. It is vitally important to the school that we continue our positive momentum and thoughtful consideration to the new nominations is requested.  Becky Stephens volunteered to draft a letter and will review the letter with Jeanie Hetrick to finalize and send to Boise, Melba, Star and Greenleaf churches. A copy of the GFA Board Nomination Form will also be sent with the letter.
    • Joanne Warren spoke about the Greenleaf Church nomination process (going through the elders of the Church, then to the business meeting, and with a unanimous vote).
    • Merlin Glanzman said that Pastor Allen would be willing to discuss the Friends' nomination process at a PTF meeting.  Action:  Invite Pastor Allen to the next PTF meeting, if required.

  • Updates/Actions from prior meetings
    • The figures are not yet final, but it’s looking like the 2007 Auction was a great success.  JoAnn Behrends is working on setting up the procedures and job descriptions for planning of next year’s auction.
    • Byron Sheets announced that Mr. Sheldon has agreed to accept his position back as Superintendent for the upcoming school year.
    • Debbie Swanson inquired about the status of the Elementary Playground Equipment.  JoAnn Behrends offered to check into this and will report back.  It was discussed that a goal needs to be set for this project so that people can see the progress made and what is needed to complete it.

  • Prayers
    • April Sheets said she has been studying Nehemiah in the Old Testament, who stood up for what is right.  April asked that we pray that GFA will make changes and to pray for re-building.  She feels very encouraged that the Board is working with Mr. Sheldon.
    • Lori Maxwell requested prayers for a young child, Abigail Austin, in daycare who has leukemia.

  • School Needs
    • Carrie Dalton needs school desks.  Please contact Carrie via the school office if you have any ideas to fill this need.
    • The boys' and girls' bathrooms desperately need repair work.  The stalls need reinforcement and new doors should be installed.  Materials for these repairs will need to be donated.  Please contact Byron Sheets if you can help.  A tentative work day is planned for the end of April or early May.

  • Committee Updates
    • Volunteers are needed for the PTF's Encouragement, Volunteer and Spiritual committees.  Please contact Sheila Beeman, Debbie Swanson, or April Sheets if you can help support any of these committees.
    • Sheila Beeman presented ideas for Teacher’s Appreciation Week in May.  Details will be emailed to parents for support of this project.
  • Suggestions/Other
    • Suggestions were submitted in February and March, but not discussed at this meeting.  They will be addressed at the May PTF meeting.

The next PTF meeting will be on Monday, May 7, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the school dining hall.
