Review of following highlights of the GFA Board meeting minutes from December 18th by Byron Sheets (notes provided by Jeanie Hetrick).

  • The elementary school playground equipment project is in process.

  • The board was pleased to learn that a parent has offered to work on the repair of school busses.  This individual is experienced in auto mechanics.

  • Teaching Spanish to pre-school children has begun, and the GFA Spanish II Students are leading the class.

  • The Student Affairs Committee and Julie Douty are reviewing the Student-Parent Handbook. The PTF has requested that the Student Affairs Committee provide suggestions on how parents can be involved with Handbook changes/ suggestions in the future.  Currently, if parents have any issues that are not resolved within the Handbook, please contact Mr. Sheldon.

  • Reminders:

    • The Mom’s In Touch Prayer Group meets at GFA every Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the elementary music room (room 2 in the high school). If you can't meet with the group, please contact April Sheets with your prayer requests.  The goal for Mom’s in Touch is to have groups of moms praying for GFA all the time.

    • The suggestion box is located in the school office.  If you need any suggestion forms, please ask Debbie Johnson in the office.

    • The Board has submitted two recommendations for work projects to be done: (1) pave the parking lots, and (2) landscaping upgrade for the front of the school.

PTF Suggestions Review:
The following suggestions were submitted and will be posted to the GFA Website under “Volunteer Projects”.  This is a great way to work on your service hours for the school year.  Please note that these projects do not need to be formally organized as a family work day.

  • Repair women’s restroom stall doors
  • Paint Auction booths
  • Upgrade of Teacher’s Lounge

New Business

  • Judy Magee provided an update concerning GFA’s Endowment.  The $200,000 endowment fund is now invested in an interest-income fund.  The endowment will be divided into the following three categories:  Operational Fund, Tuition Aid/Scholarships, and Capital Projects/Development

  • In addition, as of 1/8/07, the End of Year Giving Tree has yielded over $21,000 in donations.

  • The PTF has offered to provide snacks at the monthly Board meetings.  April Sheets will provide for the next board meeting on 1/15/07.  Debbie Swanson will send a list of volunteers to Sheila Beeman (Encouragement Team) who will try to find volunteers to carry this forward.

  • JoAnn Behrends, Quaker Village 2007 Auction Coordinator, provided an Auction update.

    • All classes have determined a theme for their class basket.

    • Classroom contact individuals have been identified for all grades except for the 3rd, 9th, and 11th grades.  If you can volunteer to be a classroom contact person, please let JoAnn know by leaving her a message at the school office.

    • JoAnn shared the new Donation Receipt form that will be used in preparing for auction donations.  Volunteers are needed for picking up donations – please contact JoAnn if you can help.

  • A family workday was conducted over the Christmas break and a significant amount of work was accomplished in the boy’s locker rooms.  Thanks to the many senior students who participated as well as extended families and parents.

  • A new family workday is scheduled for Saturday, January 27th to paint the inside entrance area to the school and clean out the trophy cases.  Posters will be placed on the school bulletin boards this week and emails will be sent to all parents who completed a volunteer form at school registration last August.  There may also be another workday scheduled for February 3rd – confirmation of this will also be posted on the school bulletin boards.

The next PTF meeting will be on Monday,  February 5, 2007 at 7:00 PM in the school dining hall.
